MAYODAN — Tom Terry Martin, 91, went home to be with Jesus, Tuesday January 24, 2012, at Hospice House of Rockingham County in Wentworth.
A 2 p.m. Funeral service will be held Thursday January 26, 2012, at the Ray Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Clearview Baptist Church Cemetery.
A Rockingham County native, Tom was born February 15, 1920 the son of Nathaniel B. and Anna Faye Griggs Martin. Tom was a charter member of Clearview Baptist Church. Joining in 1947, he attended faithfully as long as his health permitted. Through the years he was deeply involved in all aspects of the church, serving as a Deacon, Song Leader and Sunday School teacher. He was a self employed carpenter and a World War II veteran serving in the US Army.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his wife Goldie Ferris Martin; two brothers, Bolie and Levi Martin; three sisters, Margaret Martin, Louise Lemons, and Tunie Tuttle.
Tom loved to go fishing, hunting and enjoyed motorcycles. He was always generous with his time and talents.
He is survived by three children, Linda Oakley, Tammie Farmer of Eden and Terry Martin and wife Bonnie of Mayodan; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren.
