Mustered in Battery A, 3rd Regiment, N.Y. Light Artillery on 15 Mar 1862. Mustered out of Battery A as a Sergeant on 22 Aug 1862 at New Berne, North Carolina, with a discharge from New Berne hospital due to a disability... NOTE: Battery K appears on his gravestone as Battery A was later assigned to Battery K, 3rd Regiment, N.Y. Light Artillery. NOTE: Census data has his date of birth about 1808 with being born in Chenango County, New York. However, his Civil War records have him born on 1 Aug 1807 in Brutus, Cayuga County, NY.
