John J. Stogdale – Holding prestige as the oldest merchant of Liberty, with a record of 40 years of continuous activity was born December 12, 1844 in Moberly, Randolph County, Missouri. He graduated from William Jewell College in 1872. He then purchased a grocery business which he operated until 1874. He then entered the clothing business and then the produce business. His land holdings are about 600 acres within Clay County. He belongs to the Masonic Lodge and to Ararat Shrine Temple. In 1874 he married Belle Miller, daughter of Robert Hugh Miller (editor of the Liberty Tribune). Mrs. Stogdale passed away in 1907. They have three children: Robert W. Stogdale, Emma E. Lincoln and Louise Stogdale.

John James was born to William and Susan Elizabeth Gashwiler Stogdale. He married Annabel L. "Belle" Miller on September 10, 1873 in Liberty, Clay Co, MO. From this union were born three known children: Robert William, Enfield Caryl Lincoln and Louise Christine. John died in Liberty, MO.
