Florence Ivy Shimek

Florence Ivy Shimek, 95, died Tuesday (March 19, 1985), at Arkansas City Memorial Hospital. She was born Aug. 18, 1889, in Venton, the daughter of James Monroe and Margaret Copeland Stinson.

She grew up and received her education in the Venton, Arkansas City area.

On March 30, 1910, she married John Lewis Shimek in Arkansas City. They made their home east of Newkirk on Beaver creek living there for many years before moving to another farm northeaset of Newkirk. In 1958 they moved to Arkansas City. He died March 29, 1959.

She was an active member of the Church of the Nazarene and a past member of the Eastern Star and Sweetwater Club.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. James R. (Frances) Brown, Arkansas City; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Cash, Arkansas City, and Mrs. Lora M. Straight of Vancouver, Wash.; seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two daughters, one great-grandchild, her parents, two brothers and six sisters.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Bill Bland officiating. Burial will follow in Hope cemetery under the direction of Miller-Stahl Funeral service.

A memorial has been established with the Church of Nazarene. Contributions may be made in her name through the church.
