Royal Knutson, 66, of Ada, Minnesota, died Saturday, July 18, 2009, at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Royal, son of Clinton and Elda (Benitt) Knutson was born on December 2, 1942 in Thief River Falls, MN. He grew up and attended grade school in the rural Grygla area and graduated from Goodridge Public School. He furthered his education at Bemidji (MN) State College, graduating in 1965. On August 21, 1965, Royal was united in marriage to Sharon Swanson at Goodridge, MN. They made their home in Ada. Royal began teaching 4th grade at the Ada Public School in 1965, where he taught for 32 years followed by 10 years of driving school bus for the Ada-Borup School District.

Royal has been an active member of the Grace Lutheran Church; he video taped the Grace Lutheran Church services for over 25 years. He was a member of the Ada Education Association and was active on the Union Negotiations Committee. He was also a member of the Eagles, Ada Jaycees, and Ada Lions. He served on the Ada City Council and Public Works Committee. Royal was an entrepreneur, as he owned and operated West Main Pizza in Ada, had a screen printing business, video taping business, and Christmas greeting signs construction business.

Royal looked forward to seeing his granddaughters and spending time at the lake. He spent many years camping, deer hunting and fishing.

Royal is survived by his wife, Sharon, Ada, MN, two sons, Chadwyn (Laura) Delaware, Ohio, granddaughters Teagan and Kailyn; Christopher, St. Louis Park, MN, one brother, Rodney (Sandra) Knutson, Thief River Falls, MN, Rhonda (Michael) Sellnow, Minot, ND, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Clint & Elda Knutson, a still born baby boy and a niece, Nicole Knutson.

Funeral Service: 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.

Visitation: 5:00-7:00 pm with a 7pm Prayer Service on Tuesday, July 21st at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN

Burial: Goodridge Cemetery, Goodridge, MN.
