Operated family's Youngstown farm
CAMBRIA - Leonard J. Allen, 85, of 4334 Church Road, died Thursday (June 6, 1989) in Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Town of Lewiston.
A Youngstown native, Allen operated his family's farm on Lake Road, until 1960, when he moved to Cambria. He also worked as head of maintenance for the Lewiston-Porter Central School Jr. High School for 20 years, retiring in 1972.
He was member and elder of First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, a member of the Niagara County Farm Bureau, the Niagara County Cooperative Extension Service, the Board of Trustees of the Oakland Rural Cemetery Association, a member of the Auxiliary Police of the Civil Defense and was on the Town of Porter Zoning Board.
Survivors include his wife, Helen (Crawford) Allen; a son, Ronald Allen of Robbinsville, N.J.; a daughter, Ruth Dann of Baldwin, N.Y.; and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was the son of the late Walter and Olive (Griffin) Allen and brother of the late James Allen and Marjorie Besemer.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Hardison Funeral Homes, Fourth and Ridge streets, Lewiston.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, Main and Church streets, with Dr. Charles Stratton officiating.
Burial will be in Oakland Rural Cemetery, Porter.
Contributions to First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown are acceptable as tribute.
