"A Deplorable Death"

One of the saddest occurrences that we have been called upon to record for a long time, was the death of Mrs. Rosa Campbell, nee Ellison, wife of W.C. Campbell, of typhoid pneumonia in Florence, Dec. 15. Mr. and Mrs. Campbell and children were returning home from the hot springs in Yuma county, where they had taken Mr. Campbell's brother a sufferer from rheumatism.

Mrs. Campbell was unwell from the time she left the springs, but it was deemed only a slight indisposition until they arrived at Florence and consulted a physician, who pronounced the illness typhoid pneumonia. Although all that medical skill could suggest was done, and every attention was shown the invalid, she passed away within four days after reaching Florence.

When the true nature of the disease was discovered Mr. Campbell telegraphed the information to his wife's father, J.W. Ellison, but as the message had to be forwarded from Globe by mail, the parents knew nothing of their daughter's illness until death had ended her suffering.

The body was embalmed at Florence and the bereaved husband and his two little motherless children started with the remains on their sorrowful journey homeward. At Riverside they were met by a brother of the deceased lady, P.G. Ellison, and his wife, and J.H. Thompson, and at Pioneer by the father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Ellison, their daughter Miss Duett, and Geo. W.P. Hunt. The melancholy cortege arrived in Globe on Wednesday, and on Thursday morning resumed the journey to the home of the family, eighteen miles from Payson, where they are not expected
to arrive until Tuesday next.

The untimely death of Mrs. Campbell is peculiarly lamentable from the fact that she leaves two little children; one three years and the other six months old, who can never know a mother's matchless love. Mrs. Campbell was the third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ellison, a woman of many virtues, beloved by her family, and esteemed by all who knew her.
