Olympic Games Gold Medalist Athlete. She competed as a member of the 1928 and 1932 United States Olympic Swimming Team, winning a Gold Medal in each of the Olympiads. In 1928 she was part of the United States 4×100 Meter Freestyle Relay with Adelaide Lambert, Albina Osipowich and Martha Norelius that won the Gold Medal with a World Record time of 4:47.6 minutes. The next year In 1929 in an Amateur Athletic Union event she set a record in the individual 100-Meter freestyle, becoming the first woman to swim under 1:10. Selected as part of the 1932 United States Women's Olympic Team for the Summer games held in Los Angeles, California, she and her teammates Helen Johns, Helene Madison and Josephine McKim won the Gold Medal in the Women's 4x100 Meter Freestyle Relay with a record breaking time of 4:38.0 minutes. She became the first woman to win the Gold Medal in the event in two consecutive Olympiads.
