Ole Rygg was born October 6, 1854 in Frosta, Northern Thronheim, Norway. He immigrated to America in 1872 and lived in Fillmore County, MN for ten years. In 1882, he moved to Trail County in North Dakota.

Guri Arneson was born in Gol, Hallingdal, Norway July 7, 1863. When she was three years old, she came to America with her mother, sisters, and brothers, settling in the vicinity of Harmony, MN. They moved to Belmont in 1882.

Ole and Guri were married February 24, 1883 and lived in Trail County until June 2, 1897, when they moved to Hay Township in Cavalier County. They traveled in a covered wagon with a few cattle tied behind and the journey took several days. At this time, Ole and Guri had a family of five children. Gustha, being the oldest, walked behind the wagon most of the way to see that the cattle stayed in line. At night, they camped by a slough so that the cattle and horses could be watered and fed. The family slept in the wagon.

When they arrived here, they stayed with Guri's sister, Mrs. Tollef Tollefson for a few days. They moved to a farm a mile and one-half west of Tollefsons and lived there for several years. Then they moved to a farm south of Rustens in Alma Township where they lived in a log cabin for many years. They lived at several other places in the area before settling on a farm west of the Frank Jacobson place, where they spent the remaining years of their lives.

They were the parents of twelve children:

Gustha, born January 3, 1884, married Martin Haraseth. They had six children. (See Martin Haraseth history elsewhere in book).
