"Neely" Swett was the village blacksmith of Boyd for more than 40 years and a resident of Boyd for 58 years. He was born in Jackson county in 1875. He married Lucy Hanna at the age of 21 and the couple had ten children. Son Vernon lived one month, son Clarence died aged 3 years and daughter Hazel died aged 14 years. Daughter Edith died aged 18 after just four months of marriage. Percy, James, George, Marjorie, Laura, and William survived to adulthood. He died at The Dalles, Oregon on January 28, 1965 and is buried next to his wife Lucy at Park Lawn Cemetery in The Dalles.
