Arthur A. VanOrman, 73, died Wednesday, May 14, in a Montpelier hospital following a short illness.

He was born August 4, 1906, in Bennington to Abraham Charles and Tennie Rozina Ipsen VanOrman. He married Lucille Stone. They were later divorced. He later married June Bagley Beck August 3, 1962, in the Logan LDS Temple.

He worked for many years as switchman on the Union Pacific Railroad and did farming and ranching. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held several positions during his lifetime. He was a member of the Skyline Saddle Club and also was a member of the Bear Lake County sheriff’s posse.

Survivors include his wife, Montpelier, one step-son, Bruce Beck, Jr., Phoenix, Ariz., five grandchildren, two brothers, John and Lyle, both of Jerome; two sisters, Mrs. Verda Smith, Salt Lake City, and Mrs. Merrill (Pearl) Gunnell, Logan, Utah. He was preceded in death by one brother, Frank, and one sister, Genevieve.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 19 in the Second Ward Chapel with Bp. Boyd H. Smart conduction. He also gave remarks.

The family prayer was given by Merrill Gunnell and prelude and postlude music was by Renee Bird. Larry Schirm sang “The Lord’s Prayer” and Owen Bagley gave the invocation.

Frank Gunnell gave the obituary and remarks and Norene Andrus gave a tribute about her uncle.

“Red River Valley” was sung by Ronnie Glenn and “Beyond the Sunset” was sung by Ruth Kay Andersen.

Speakers were Bp. Gene H. Passey and Bruce Beck, Jr. Margaret VanOrman played an organ solo and Lyle VanOrman gave the benediction.

Pallbearers were Allen Ipsen, Mark Ipsen, J. D. Ipsen, Garth Glenn, Don Stephens, Lowell VanOrman, and Roger Smith. Honorary pallbearers were the Second Ward Elders Quorum and High Priest group.

Matthews Mortuary had charge of the funeral and flowers were under the direction of the Second Ward Relief Society.

John VanOrman dedicated the grave in the Montpelier Cemetery.
