Services for Jesse H. Thomas of 718 S. 7th St., a partner in Booth & Thomas Inc., plumbing supply firm, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, Dr. Beryl S. Kinser officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Mr. Thomas, 84, died at 8 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Hospital.
Born near Havana, Mr. Thomas for 21 years until 1921 was associated with the F.M. McGowan Co. in Springfield. He then founded the Springfield Salvage Co. with the late W. D. Booth, and the firm later became Booth and Thomas Inc.
Mr. Thomas a volunteer in the Spanish American War and active in the Home Guard training during World War I was active in several community organizations.
He was supreme counsellor of the United Commercial Travelers, elder emeritus of the First Christian Church, president of the Workingmen's Savings & Loan Association, a former director of the Springfield Goodwill Industries, and member of the Association of Commerce and Industry.
Mr. Thomas was also a member of St. Paul's AF&M #500, Springfield Chapter 1, Springfield Consistory, Ansar Shrine and Elmwood Commandery 6.
Surviving are his widow, Mabel C.; two sons, Robert A. of Springfield and Francis H. of Flossmoor; a daughter, Mrs. Kathryn M. Kizer of Benton Harbor, Mich., and one brother, Elmer M. of Emporia, Kan.; five sisters, Mrs. Minnie Tippey, Mrs. Loy Tippey and Mrs. Sadie Foutch all of Summum, Mrs. Edna Atwater of Washington, Ill., and Mrs. George Gathmann of Forest City; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Remains are at the Smith Funeral Chapel.
