Lydia Ann Nelson was born in Clinton County, Ohio, August 18, 1837. At eight years of age with her parents moved to Warren County Indiana, when thirteen years of age under the Ministery of Rev. Paxton of the Wesleyan Methodist Church she sought and found the Savior, uniting with that church. In 1853 she was united in marriage to Win. R. Dennis, with whom in 1859 she moved to Iowa. There being no Wesleyans there she united with the Methodist Episcopal church and remained in it the rest of her life. In January 1887 she with the family came to Leoti, Wichita County, Kansas, where her husband had proceeded them and located a claim, willing to endure the privations incident to a new country, struggling bravely with the vicissitudes until the 11 of September, when she was prostrated with fever, and on Oct 2, 1887 she passed to her reward. She lived a constant Christian life, and often expressed herself as desirous of living only to glorify God and educate her children. She leaves a companion and seven children to mourn her loss. The funeral was held at the church In Lcoti, Oct. 3rd, the sermon being conducted by the writer, using as a text 2nd Cor. 5, 1. After which the remains were born to the Odd Fellows cemetery and laid beside those of Lulu who had so recently preceded her. C. E. Williams.
