STROKE FATAL; DEATH CLOSES BRIEF ILLNESS

Mrs. Mary Emma Bartholomew, widow of Alvin Bartholomew, former judge of the Porter circuit court, died Friday evening at 11:40 o'clock at her apartments in the Pioneer Flats, where she resided with her daughter, Miss Margaret Bartholomew, domestic science teacher in the city schools.

Death was the result of a stroke suffered last Monday in which she failed to rally from the attack. Previous to her illness she had been in good health.

The decedent was born in LaPorte, Indiana, on May 22, 1848, and would have been 80 years on her next birthday. Her parents were John and Mary Elizabeth (Bryson) Eason.

On November 18, 1896, shw was united in marriage to Alvin D. Bartholomew. To this union were born three sons and one daughter. Alvin, a son, lost his life in a barn five years ago. Surviving children are: Miss Margaret Bartholomew and Attorney Joseph S. Bartholomew, of this city; and John Bartholomew, of Wilmette, Ill.

She also leaves to mourn her loss three brothers, Seth Eason, Valparasio; Samuel Eason, Gary, and John Eason, Seattle, Washington, and two sisters, Mrs. Betty Durham, Denver, Colorado and Mrs. Myron J. Drapier, Valparaiso.

Funeral services will be held on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of her son, Attorney J. S. Bartholomew, 801 East Lincoln way, conducted by Rev. Chester W. Wharton, of the Presbyterian church. Interment will be in Graceland cemetery.
