Russell (Ben) Blankenship, 62, of New Castle passed away peacefully Thursday evening with his family at his side. He passed away unexpectedly at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born March 6th, 1947 in New Castle and was the son of the late Russell E. and Ruby (Knotts) Blankenship. Ben was a former employee of both Westinghouse Corp. in Muncie and D & D Brakes of New Castle. He most recently worked at Rural King in New Castle prior to his retirement earlier this year.

He was a Veteran of the United States Navy and was a member of the American Legion Post #137 of New Castle and the Moose Lodge of New Castle and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Lodge of Indianapolis. He enjoyed boating, camping and singing karoake. He most enjoyed spending time with his family.

Mr. Blankenship is survived by his Fiancee, Becky Bond of New Castle; three sons, Reverend Curtis (wife-Brandy) Blankenship D. D., David Morgerson and Cristopher (wife-Lora Ann) Blankenship, all of New Castle; one step son, Richard (wife-Jennifer) Williams of Mooreland; one sister, Rosetta VanNatter of New Castle; six grandchildren, Devin (wife-Ashlee) Blankenship of New Castle, Brittany Blankenship of Indianapolis, Dylan Blankenship, Bryanna Blankenship, Tommy (wife-Brittany) Morgerson, all of New Castle and Amber Morgerson of Muncie and two great grandchildren, Christiana and Brandon Morgerson of New Castle. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by his father, Russell E. Blankenship and his mother, Ruby Nevins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Main & Davis Funeral Home, Broad St. Chapel in New Castle. Burial will follow in the South Mound Cemetery, West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the services on Monday.
