Harold Gaethje

Harold Gaethje, 95, a longtime resident of Bisbee, Ariz., passed away on July 14, 2009. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Stephanie (Sally) (Medigovich), a native of Bisbee, Ariz.
Survivors include his sons, Robert and Bill; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was born in Rock Island, Ill., and raised on the Fort Apache Indian reservation in the White Mountains Northern Arizona.
He was employed by Phelps Dodge Mining, Copper Queen Branch. Harold became part of the "Great Generation" when he joined the Navy (Sea Bee's) and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
Returning to Bisbee, Harold retired from Phelps Dodge in 1975 before underground, square-set mining and the name of Phelps Dodge disappeared as an industry. However, as a contract employee he repaired and charged the company's underground batteries for another 10 years.
There will be no services.
