"Rass" Herrin Dies At Age 84
George E. (Rass) Herrin, 84, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. Otis Hancock, on the Keene's Mill Road at Rt. 2 Cottondale at 1:15 p.m. Saturday afternoon after a long illness.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. from the Andrews Chapel Church where Mr. Herrin was a member and a Steward for many years. Interment will be in the Salem Cemetery on the Huntsville Road.
A native of Cottondale and the son of the late Rufus and Sarah Herrin, Mr. Herrin is survived by his widow, one brother, John W. Herrin; one sister, Mrs. Edna Kyzer; four sons, Percy L. Herrin, Cottondale; Paul E. Herrin, Springfield, Mass.; Whit S. Herrin, Jackson, Miss.; and Howard H. Herrin, Windsor, Conn.; three daughters, Mrs. J. Otis Hancock, Cottondale; Mrs. Robert Davenport, Durham, N.C.; and Mrs. Hoyt E. Ward, Charleston, S.C.; 10 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will the the nephews. Honorary pallbearers will include Louis Ford, John Hays, Olly Snyder, Dr. A.M. Wallace, Will Fikes, M.O. Nicols, Malcolm Keene, Jim Goins, Dr. C.P. Houseman, Mynott Gore, Johnny Terry, G.C. Whatley, and Walter Snyder.
