Son of William C. and Sarah(Gragg)Wood.
At the age of 17,1850,he journeyed to Califronai seeking gold in California, settling in Hangtown(Placerville) east of Sacramento. He later moved to the Napa area and in April 1858, married Mary Elizabeth Vines.
Francis and Mary Wood, and five of their eleven children, came to San Bernardino Valley in 1869 and initially settled in the Rincon area in Chino Township. He served as Deputy Sherriff for Chino 1873-1875. Was elected County Supervisor serving from Sept.24,1875-Oct.1,1877.
They moved to Colton in 1882, living on his ranch near Agua Mansa, raising fruit and vegetables. They delivered the produce to nearby towns. Later they purchased a home in Colton. It was at this home that Mr. Wood died of a heart attack. He was survived by his wife and 8 of his 11 children.
