About that middle name......
Ira never told anyone what his middle name was. He always went by just Ira J. Noble. I asked him several times what it stood for and he said "It doesn't stand for anything. It is just "J". His wife said the same thing.
I found in his old school books - in his handwriting - Ira Jophes Noble. So that is what has been perpetuated in genealogy books and on the internet. It was all my doing. When I interviewed his sister, Vera, she said his middle name was Joseph. His wife was sitting there with me and said she had never heard him say that. Ummmm, could he just not spell Joseph and it came out Jophes. So now I am adjusting the records as I find them with Joseph and Jophes. I hope he understands and forgives me. His loving grand-daughter, Elizabeth Bearden Smith, Sept 2015.

Bio by Liz Smith, Sept 2015:
Ira's family moved around ALOT. Almost every sibling was born in a different county. Ira was born in McLennan County, Texas. Attended school in Tahlequah, Indian Territory and Loco, Indian Territory, Gainesville, Texas and probably other places.

When his family made it to Van Zandt County, he went to a party that was being held by his sister, Johnnie Robbie & her new husband of a year, Oscar Shelton, in honor of some kinfolk of Oscar's having moved to town. Ira had to duck his head as he went in the doorway. A lovely young lady noticed him right off, whether Ira noticed her is unknown, but they did get married to each other May 27, 1908 in Canton, Van Zandt County, Texas.

They lived in Van Zandt County awhile and then in Henderson County when Ira inherited some land from his father. He and Ora lived there until they were getting older and sold it and moved into the "town" of Eustace. They used some of the boards from the "Old Place" and nails. His son, Louis, bought back some of the "Old Place" land after he married.

When Ira's dad (John Robert Noble) was still living, from time to time his mother (Joda Lock Noble) would summon Ira and tell him that his dad had been gone a couple of days and ask Ira to go get him. John would be found at the grave of his first wife. He must have missed her. For years my mother and I thought her grave must be close by, but in 2001 I found her grave in Robertson County, Texas. It is 117 miles away. This was not a daytrip back then by horseback.

Ira's eyesight began to dim as he got older. His mother had poor eyesight and many of his siblings did too. As long as he could, daily he would walk the short distance to "downtown" and sit with the other older gentlemen. Then his walks consisted of just going round and round their little house. Then just round and round inside the house. He died in his sleep at home.
