George L. Hocker of Milanville, PA, a retired farmer and a lifelong resident of the area, passed away Friday, July 17, 2009, at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, Honesdale, PA. He was 91. The son of the late Louis A. and Myrtle Lassley Hocker, he was born July 6, 1918 in Milanville, PA. George was a graduate of Damascus High School, Class of 1936. He worked for GLF, was a dairy farmer and carpenter. He was a former President and Board of Directors member of Wayne Highlands School District. He served on the Wayne County Planning Commission, Board of Directors of FHA and the Board of Directors of Wayne Memorial Hospital. He was an active member of Calkins Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Doris Yerkes Hocker, at home; four children: Ronald and his wife Darlene of Milanville, PA; G. Gary and his wife Anita Ann of Milanville, PA; Lyle and his wife Opal of Beach Lake, PA; Warren D. and his wife Margo of Milanville, PA. Two sisters: Inez Olver of Dubois, WY and Juanita Diehl of Conklin Hill, PA. Seven grandsons, one granddaughter, ten great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. George is predeceased by one brother, Willard, who died in WWII and one grandson, Aaron. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. Friends are invited to call today (Tuesday, July 21, 2009) from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at Calkins Union Baptist Church, 525 Calkins Road, Milanville, PA, 18443. Funeral services will follow at 12 noon at the church. The Rev. Lane Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the Milanville Cemetery, Milanville, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Calkins Union Baptist Church Building Fund, 525 Calkins Road, Milanville, PA.
