James E. Bennett, 87, of 523 N. Antler St., Gladwin, died Monday, June 4, at the Gladwin Area Hospital following a long illness. Born in Goodwin, Kan., on December 23, 1891, he came to Gladwin County in 1908. Mr. Bennett was a self employed cabinet maker and at one time was a linotype operator at The Gladwin County Record. Mr. Bennett and the former Ethel Shaw were married October 23, 1916, in Gladwin.
Besides his wife, he is survived by 4 daughters, Mrs. Faye Fischer, Mrs. Iva Wineman, Mrs. Rose Wyrick, of Gladwin and Mrs. Dorothy Eyre of Jackson; 4 sons, Harvey of Burton, Delmer of Midland, Charles of Niles, Ill. and James Jr. of Linden; 2 sisters, Mrs. Alma Olin and Lillian Bennett, both of Lansing; 3 brothers, Vincent and Chester of Lansing and Edmond of Gladwin; 37 grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin Chapel, with the Rev. Donald Bates officiating. Burial will in Highland Cemetery. Gladwin County Record dated 06-06/1979 Column - 4 Page - 2
