Served as a Township Supervisor in East Brandywine for 42 years and operated his fathers farm at 1114 Horseshoe Pike, Guthriesville. He was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Republican Club of Chester County, the East Brandywine Historical Society, East Brandywine Fire Company, Williamson Lodge #309 F & AM, and the Reading Consistory, Reading PA. He was an avid bowler. He died at his home under the care of his sister Norma Jean Plank. In the year 2001, the East Brandywine Township Building was dedicated to Alan and his parents. It reads; "McCAUSLAND HALL (formerly Guthriesville School) Est. 1869. In Memory of John and Mary McCausland for their lifelong support of East Brandywine Township, and their son Alan McCausland for forty years of dedicated service as Township Supervisor and Roadmaster. McCausland Hall is hereby dedicated to the McCausland Family of Guthriesville, Pa. 22nd day of February 2001.
