"NELLIE PATCH
A celebration of life of Nellie Patch, 89-year-old longtime Johnson County resident who passed away Mar 11, 2000 at the WY Medical Center in Casper, WY will be held Thursday, Mar 16 from the Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Dave Miers officiating. Burial will be in Willow Grove Cemetery.

Nellie Lucille Patch was born Aug 4, 1910 in MT to Clifford and Ora hill Cook, pioneers who homesteaded in Montana and ranched in Wyoming. She attended schools in Montana and Buffalo and graduated from Johnson County High School. After high school she received Normal Training and started teaching at the age of 16.

In October of 1936, she married Ellis G Patch in Deadwood, SD. They made their home in Dayton, WY where Mr Patch worked for the Forest Service. In 1941, they moved to the Patch homestead south of Buffalo where they raised five daughters. In the mid-fifties, Mrs Patch returned to her teaching career, teaching at the Klondike Consolidated School and Billy Creek School. She attended Sheridan College and the University of WY during the summers,l and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in education in 1962. She was affectionately known as ‘Aunt Nellie' to her pupils and their parents throughout the ranching community in which she lived and taught.

After retirement in 1972, she enjoyed traveling. She visited England, five European countries, Mexico, Jamaica and most all the states in the United States. She was a happy adventurer and a delight to travel with. In her youth she dared to take a ride with a barnstorming pilot in the 1920's. At 75, she rode an elephant at a circus in Buffalo, and at 89, she took a cruise to Alaska with her daughters and sons-in-law. Mrs Patch was an avid reader, gardener and a loving role model for her grandchildren and g-grandchildren.

After her husband's death in 1991, she continued to live at the family home south of Buffalo until 1995, when she began to live with her daughters, Sherrie Patch in Casper and Kathleen McPhee south of Buffalo. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister. She is survived by five daughters; Saralee Haskins and husband Tom of Natick, MA, Sally Sack and husband Dan of Framingham, MA, Shirley Jacob and husband Bob of Casper, Sherrie Patch of Casper, and Kathleen McPhee and husband Ron of Buffalo; 11 grandchildren and 11 g-grandchildren."
