In my maternal line, the McDonalds are all Episcopalian and the immigrant of 1730 from Inverness was instrumental, one might say impassioned, in the effort to build an Episcopal church in a town on the outskirts of New York City that the British burned out during the Revolutionary War. His role in the matter appears in "History of the Protestant Episcopal Church in Westchester", Author: Reverend Robert Bolton(1814-1877). Episcopalians were suspected of Loyalist sympathies in the state of New York and one Episcopalian minister was murdered, but my ancestor was Colonel of the militia in the Revolutionary forces, justice of the peace, and correspondent with the Continental Congress. His great grandson, my 3rd great grandfather was Daniel McDonald who was a professor of ancient languages and the first president of the Geneva [Episcopal] Academy now known as Hobart College.
