Ora Bea "Massie" Rains

Ora Bea "Massie" Rains, 82, of Amarillo died Friday, Jan. 11, 2002.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today in Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors Ivy Chapel, 2820 Virginia Circle, with the Rev. Robert Field, retired Baptist minister, officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery in Hereford.

Mrs. Rains was born in Tahoka in 1919. She had resided in Amarillo more than 25 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Hereford. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge in Amarillo and a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for many years.

She counseled many alcoholics and was faithful as a member. She was instrumental in setting up a halfway house for women receiving treatment for alcoholism and was the first executive director.

She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Dora Lee Howell, in 1997.

Survivors include a son, James N. Rains; and two nephews, Gene Griffin and Eldon Howell.
