DR. VERE X CAMPBELL
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and best friend, Dr. Vere X. Campbell, age 76, passed away with the loving care of his family near on September 20, 1999, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He died after a valiant fight with cancer.
Vere was born Sept. 10, 1923, in Lava Hot Springs, ID. He was the 10th child of Jared Edward Campbell Jr. and Lydia May Loveland Campbell. He served his country in the eighth Air Force during World War II. He was a tail gunner on a B-17 Airplane. He kept contact with his crew and enjoyed their friendship. He married LaVerna Jones on December 20, 1945 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had five children that he loved and supported. He graduated from Pocatello High and Palmer College in Davenport, Iowa. He attended the U of U and was an avid "Ute" fan and a team trainer for several years.
Practicing as a Chiropractor for 50 years, he used his healing hands to help his family and many friends. He was an employee of Kennecott Copper and retired from Hercules after many years of service. Vere was a valiant servant of his Heavenly Father serving in many church capacities including Bishop of the South 2nd ward, a high priest and in the scouting program.
Proud of his Scottish family heritage, he spent many hours working on genealogy and served as the Utah State Commissioner for the Clan Campbell for several years. Vere loved people and enjoyed getting to know others. He was especially good at seeing the humor in life. His family and being outdoors in nature was important to him. He celebrated the lives of his children. Dad was grateful to have a little extra time with family before he was called home. We cherished his time with us.
He is survived by his wife LaVerna Jones Campbell, Holladay, son Galen (Susan) Campbell, Holladay, son Jared (Kathi) Campbell, Sandy, daughter Kathryn (Dirk) Horton, Sandy, daughter Connie (Robert) Madsen, Salt Lake, daughter Angela (Peter) Jenson, Salt Lake, and 19 grandchildren.
