Lydia was born in Campbelltown, Manawatu, named after one of its founders, Robert Campbell. The name of the town was changed in 1894 to Rongotea under the Designation of Districts Act, the reason given was that there was another Campbelltown in the South Island and this caused problems with the postal deliveries - Rongotea was the name of Turi's hapu.

- On the 21st inst., at the Wesleyan Church, Rongotea, by the Rev C. C. Harrison, James, eldest son of Mr John L. Nairn, of Mt Stewart, Pohangina, to Lydia Myrtle, youngest daughter of Mr W. Hunt, of Rongotea. Rev C. C. Harrison presented the happy couple with a handsome bible, this being the first wedding in the church.
