MONITOR - James D. "Jim" Fischer, 84, a longtime Monitor orchardist, died Wednesday, Aug. 31, 1994, in the Cashmere Convalescent Center following an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 1, 1909, to William and Elizabeth (Beckman) Fischer at Blue Rapids, Kan. As a child, he moved with his family to Wymore, Neb., where he grew up and attended school. He later worked on the family farm.
He married Bernice Goes on July 25, 1934, at Beatrice, Neb., and they moved to Cashmere where they made their home. They moved to Monitor in 1935, where they worked in the fruit industry. They purchased their own orchard in 1957, which Mr. Fischer operated until his retirement in 1991.
He was a member of the Monitor United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, at home; a daughter, Sharlene Strutzel of Monitor; a brother, Don of Washington, Kan.; a sister, Elnora Collister of California; a granddaughter, Debra DeMartin of Chelan; and two great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by three brothers.
Arrangements are by the Braun Funeral Home, Cashmere.
