Mattie Marie De Fosse Day, 93, a resident at Rochester Health Care Center, died Saturday morning of a heart condition at the nursing home. Born Mattie Marie Bloomhuff May 15, 1896, in Ripley, Ohio, she married Samuel De Fosse in 1914 in Iowa. They lived in Muscatine, Iowa until moving to Rochester in 1938. She ran the Maid Rite Cafe for almost 40 years. Mr. De Fosse died in 1970. She later married Wilbur Day and he preceded her in death. Survivors include three daughters, Tresa Cnossen of Washington, Iowa, Pauline Berghammer of Clayton, Wis., and June Tangen of San Jose, Calif; a son, Allen "Jiggs" De Fosse of Tucson, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; and 10 great great grandchildren. A son, a daughter, three brother [sic] and six sisters preceded her in death. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Macken Colonial Chapel with the the Rev. Robert Dunn of Christ United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and an hour before the service Tuesday at the funeral home.
