Gwen B. Lipscomb, 81, of Mechanicsville died peacefully in her sleep from lung cancer on Sunday, May 28, 2006. She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. "Tommy" Lipscomb Jr.; and brother, Hubert Burrell. She is survived by her sons, Thomas "Lynn" Lipscomb and James "Lee" Lipscomb and wife, Pat; daughter, Cindy Lipscomb Culp; five grandchildren, Thomas L. "Tommy" Lipscomb Jr. (Tina), Russell "Scott" Lipscomb (Cathy), Joshua L. "Josh" Lipscomb, Lacy Richmond (Chris), and W. Alexander "Alex" Culp; also two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Courtney; two sisters, Jane and Jean Nyman. She is also survived by her devoted church family at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Chickahominy Ward, and all of her Wal-mart family. She was greatly honored in 1995 when she received the Wal-mart Regional People Greeters Award. She was a retired employee for Sears & Robuck's customer service department. The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, at the Mechanicsville chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 8014 Lee Davis Rd. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 8005 Atlee Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. Interment 3 p.m. at Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Bon Secours Hospice, 8580 Magellan Parkway, Richmond, Va. 23227 or The American Lung Association of Virginia, 9221 Forest Hill Ave., Richmond, Va. 23235.
