Obituary from Post Register (Idaho Falls, ID) - July 18, 2009:
Kenneth Edward Abegglen, 85, of St. Anthony, passed away July 15, 2009, surrounded by his family, at Spring Creek Manor in St. Anthony.
He was born August 25, 1923, in Wilford, Idaho, to Lawrence Edward Abegglen and Mary Agnes Hansen Abegglen. While growing in the Wilford area, he attended schools in St. Anthony and graduated from South Fremont High School. He served in the Air Force during World War II.
After an honorable discharge from military service, he married Cora Verba Hunter on April 9, 1947, in Egin, Idaho. They were blessed with seven sons and one daughter. They lived in the Egin, Kilgore and Wilford areas. Ken worked in the potato industry in the early years, raised cattle and farmed until he retired. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved to fish, hunt and bowl, and he was a baseball coach for many years. He loved animals and, most of all, his dogs. They were constant companions and followed him every where he went.
He is survived by his children, Dennis (Luann) Abegglen, Terry (Diane) Abegglen, Darius (Kim) Abegglen, Pat (Mike) Smith, Garin (Sherri) Abegglen, Rick (Lorna) Abegglen, and Darrell (Carma) Abegglen; 25 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Ivan (Pauline) Abegglen and Lucille (Lowell) Palmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, two grandsons, his parents, one brother and several half-brothers and half-sisters.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 20, at the Wilford LDS Chapel, with Bishop Rodney Dalling officiating. Burial will be in Wilford Cemetery, with military rites by the St. Anthony VFW and American Legion.
