Enlisted as a private in Company E, 59th Regiment, Georgia Infantry 5-10-1862. Appointed Corporal 1-22-1863. Captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania 7-2-1863. Appears on a roll of prisoners of war at Fort McHenry, Maryland 7-6-1863. Sent to Fort Delaware, Delaware, 7-1863. No later record. Married Sarah E “Sallie” (born Best) Grimsley on 11-18-1891. She was born 9-24-1868 and died 10-2-1935 both in Clay County. Joseph was a planter and Sarah was housewife. They had 4 children.
