Our kind and beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Doan Berdoyle Burgess, age 74, died on July 11, 2009 at his home in Torrey.

He was born June 5, 1935 in Price, Utah, a son of Arther Nelton and Ruth Leavitt Burgess.

He attended Wayne High School and Utah Trade Technical College. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Doan married Elnora Duncan on May 29, 1958 in the Manti LDS Temple.

He was an active member of the LDS Church, serving in many different callings including the Sunday School Presidency, Elders Quorum Presidency, Home Teacher and Sunday School Teacher.

Doan was a coal miner, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, listening to old classical country music, raising animals to butcher, and doing his own butchering.

Doan is survived by his loving wife of Torrey; children: Don and Dana Burgess of Lyman; Nora and Johnny Baca of Kearns; Louise and Pete Archuleta of Aztec, New Mexico; Jean and Jason Maschmeyer of Gilbert, Arizona; Joan and Terry Medford of Bloomfield, New Mexico; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sister and brothers: Nona Osborn of Romeo, Colorado; Denny and Mary Kaye Burgess, Darvin and Lorna Burgess, all of Lehi; Dewey Burgess of Spanish Fork; Vernell and Arba Burgess of Levan; Jay and Sarah Burgess of Provo. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jeremy Burgess.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in the Torrey Ward Chapel, where friends may call for a viewing on Thursday morning from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the services.

Burial with Full Military Honors accorded by the Harold Brown American Legion Post #92 will be in the Torrey Cemetery under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina, Utah.
