George was a son of William M. and Mary Knott and was with his parents during the census of 1880. The 1910 census however, shows him aged 46, suggesting he should have been at least 16 years of age in 1880
His obituary, forwarded by Dolores Bohn, was in The Lebanon Enterprise, Friday, 3-16-1951.
"G. E. Knott, 85, for many years a well known farmer of the St. Francis community, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. H. Smith, there at 4:40 o'clock Tuesday morning. Death was due to bronchial pneumonia. He recently was under treatment at the Mary Immaculate Infirmary for several days, but about a week before his passing was removed to his daughter's home. He seemed to be improving until taking a sudden turn for the worse. Mr. Knott was born on December 18, 1865, a son of J.M. (actually William M.) and Mary Hinton Knott. Years ago, he was united in marriage to Miss Frances Mattingly. Her death occurred on February 22, 1932. Four children survive, Mrs. William Mattingly of Indianapolis, Ind.; Mrs. Edna Admire of Louisville, and W.T. Knott and Mrs. Smith, both of St. Francis. He also leaves sixteen grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted yesterday morning by the Rev. John T. Spalding at St. Francis of Assisi Church, and burial was in the church cemetery."
