He was a native of Buncombe County and had lived in Haywood County most of his life. He was a son of the late Fred and Onie Henson West and was preceded in death by two sons, Dale and Darrell West and a brother, Lloyd West. Mr. West retired from Champion International with 43 years of service and was a member of Mountain View Church of God of which he served as Sunday School Superintendent for several years. He was also a member of Citizens for Christian Action and was a United States Army veteran serving during WWII in the Southwest Pacific Theatre.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jorene Maney West; one daughter, Joy Westphal and her husband Don of Ennis, TX; one son, Eric West and his wife Jan of Canton; one sister, Lola Hollars of Leicester; four grandchildren, Kira and Heath West and Joshua and Nathan Westphal and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 2, 2004 at the Mountain View Church of God with the Reverend Herman Toney officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery in Clyde.
