Nicholas Minges was born on February 29, 1804 in Burweiler, Germany. He married Barbara Hartkorn, who also was born in Burweiler on November 15, 1816. She was the daughter of Elizabeth and Jacob Hartkorn. They married in Burweiler in 1836. They had three children in Burweiler - Theresa, Mary and John. They migrated to the United States in 1843. They arrived in New Orleans and traveled to Arkansas and Pennsylvania before they settled in Colerain Township in the State of Ohio. Nicholas Purchased a farm across the street from St. Bernard's Church in Taylor Creek. Thereafter, ten more children arrived: Peter, Valentine, Joseph, George, William, Louise, Young Joseph, Barbara, Frederick and Rachel.
Nicholas died September 2, 1892. Barbara (Hartkorn) Minges died October 3, 1872. Both are interred at the cemetery behind St. Bernard Church in Taylor Creek.
