DELMAR - Elizabeth J. Adkins, 92, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Born in Wicomico County, she was the daughter of the late Ora and Janie White. After the death of her mother, she was raised by John and Lizzie Jones, her uncle and aunt. Her husband Nestor Adkins, preceded her in death in 1972.
Mrs. Adkins was a member of Charity United Methodist Church near Salisbury. A graduate of Salisbury Normal School, she worked as teacher at Hammonds School, a one-room schoolhouse near Salisbury. After marrying, she and her husband farmed on Conley Mill Road near Delmar.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Ralph Adkins and his wife Sarah of Frederick, MD; a grandson Dr. Scott Adkins of Fort Pierce, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
A sister, Mae Matthews and a stepsister, Lillian Matthews, also preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday as 11 a.m. at Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury, where a visitaion will be held Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Lay Pastors Major and Doris Bailey will officiate. Interment will be in Wicomico Memorial Park.
