Zela McCaffrey Jan 19, 1908- Sept. 22, 2006

Zela McCaffrey, 98, died Sept. 22 in Colorado City, Colo. She was born in Lovell on Jan. 19, 1908, the third of 11 children born to Adelbert and Delila Asay. She married George (Mac) McCaffrey on Dec. 1, 1928.

Mac was a druggist and owned the Lovell Drug until 1956. They lived at 585 Montana Ave. their entire married life. After retirement and until Mac died in 1994, they spent their winters in Desert Hot Springs, Calif.

After Mac died, Zela spent her winters in Arizona with her daughters. She was proud of her pioneer heritage and her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She liked to swim, walk, read, travel and attend Elderhostels. Family reunions were very special to her.

Zela and Mac loved to travel the world and enjoyed trips to Europe, Brazil, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska, India, Nepal and China.

Zela will be remembered for her beautiful smile, kind heart, her generosity and her quick wit. In addition to the LDS Church, she was a member of the Lovell Woman's Club, Eastern Star, Newcomers Club and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

She is survived by two daughters, Joye (Larry) Marostica of Colorado City and Marilyn (Cal) Hunter of Wray, Colo.; 12 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Helen (Charlie) Shumway of Vernal, Utah; two brothers, Merril (Delsa) Asay of Lovell and Calvin (Colleen) Asay of Muskogee, Okla.; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband George (Mac), her parents, three sisters, four brothers and one grandchild.

Viewing will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29 in the Relief Society room at the Lovell Stake Center. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. and interment will be held in the Lovell Cemetery.
