Mrs. Laura Caroline "Carolyn" White, 92, a retired alterations seamstress from McAlpin's Department Store in Magee, died Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at Silver Cross Home, Brookhaven, MS.

Visitation was held Friday, July 10, 2009, from 5-9 pm at Mims-Mitchell Funeral Home in Magee, MS. Funeral services were 11 am Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Mims-Mitchell Funeral Home with burial in the Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Magee, MS.

Pallbearers were Victor Bryant, Stanley Bryant, Travis Bryant, Clint Bryant, Tony Bryant, and Darren Craft. Honorary pallbearer was Ernest Bryant. All nephews of Carolyn's.

Brookhaven Funeral Home in Brookhaven, MS handled the arrangements.

A native of Smith County, Carolyn was the daughter of Katie B. Amason Bryant and Robert T. Bryant. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She was a lady of many talents, including a gifted seamstress, a talented cook and gardener. Most of all she loved people. She enjoyed a wide circle of friends and had a great loving interest in all of her immediate and extended family.

She will be greatly missed and forever be remembered for her loving spirit and gentle smile.

A devout Christian, she was a former member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church and the First Baptist Church of Magee and Van Winkle Baptist Church of Jackson. She was always very active in a variety of church activities, including serving as a Sunday School teacher.

At the time of her death, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Hendersonville, TN, where she sometimes enjoyed sitting near Johnny Cash. Once, she was sitting in the pew just behind him, and she tapped him on the shoulder and said, "Johnny, I just have to shake your hand!" He turned, smiled and shook her hand. She was always a Johnny Cash fan!

Survivors include: three daughters and their husbands, DeVera White Miley and husband, Jim and Olivia White McNair and husband, Steve, all of Murfreesboro, TN and Verna White McFadden and husband, Larry of Brookhaven.

She is also survived by five grandchildren, Carol McNair Cuff and husband Jeff, Joey A. McNair and wife, Betsy, Jason A. McFadden and wife, Christie, Jonathan B. Miley, and Jenny L. McFadden.

In addition, she is survived by six great grandchildren, Andrew Lucas Cuff, Rachel Leia Cuff, Ava Grace Moreton, Alayna Katherine McNair, Brittan Blair McFadden, and Harley Briann McFadden. (Two great-granddaughters, Saylor Barnes McFadden and Magnolia Leigh Tucker and two great-grandsons, John Hawkins Miley and Boone White "Bo" Miley, were born after her death, making ten great grandchildren.) She is also survived by a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph Verner White; three brothers, Ernest Velpo Bryant, Daniel Leon Bryant, and Clinton Eugene Bryant; and one infant sister.
