Husband of CATHERINE SITTON BUCKNER. He was a KOREAN WAR CASUALITY. His obituary appears in The Spartanburg Herald Journal Obituary section on, April, 18, 1951, on page 3 and Oct. 17, 1951, on page 3.

Native of Madison County, NC and son of J. G. and Mrs. Mary Edward Buckner. He entered the service in 1939 and in World War II he served in the North African and Italian Campaigns, the Normandy landing and the action through France and Germany to Berlin. In the Army of Occupation he was transferred to the Corps of Military Police, and was an assistant hangman at the execution of 12 top Nazis hung for War crimes in 1945. He was a member of the Company B. of the 555th Field Artillery Battalion. He was wounded once in August 1950 and was returned to duty after three weeks. He was killed April 5, 1951 in South Korea. Funeral services were held at Holly springs Baptist Church on Oct. 18, 1951 with interment in the Church Cemetery, with Military Rites by the Lyman National Guard. Survivors included: his wife, Mrs. Kathryn Sitton Buckner, his father, J. G. Buckner, four brothers, Ralph, Edd, Bobby and Kermit Buckner, two sisters, Mrs. Martin Stokes and Miss Selma Buckner. He was 35 years of age at his demise.
