CHERAW - Walter Ray Grooms Sr., 69, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006.
A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5 from Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Bay Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born in Chesterfield, Mr. Grooms was a son of the late Walt and Ola Lee Johnson Grooms, and was the widower of Elizabeth Chavis Grooms. He was a retired textile employee and truck driver. Mr. Grooms was a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are a son, Walter Ray Grooms Jr. of Cheraw; two grandchildren, Heather Grooms and Johnathan Grooms; three brothers, the Rev. Ellis (Omega) Grooms of Jefferson, Jimmy (Lanthy) Grooms of Bennettsville, and Otis Grooms of Ruby; and three sisters, Cathy Grooms and Gertrude (Ronnie) Turnage of Chesterfield, and Vera (Lowell) Tolson of Anderson.
