DR. WEBSTER’S RELICT BURIED IN ITHACA.
The bringing to Ithaca and interring in the old cemetery here of the mortal remains of the relict of the late Dr. H.K. Webster, is an event of melancholy interest to older residents.
Dr. Webster, thirty-five years ago, was a practicing physician here. He enjoyed a high standing in his profession, for his skill and success were great and he was universally esteemed. Prior to his active practice he owned and conducted the West End drug store, of which Hasting & Todd are the present proprietors.
At the time of his death in April 1857 Dr. Webster owned the residence subsequently purchased by Mr. Leonard Treman of the widow, and now occupied by him.
Eighteen years ago Mrs. Webster removed to Evanston, Ill., a large suburban town but eleven miles from Chicago. Here she quietly lived until Sunday last, the twentieth instant, when she quickly passed away, at the advanced age of seventy-three, of neuralgia of the heart.
Her son, Mr. Towner K. Webster, brought her remains to Ithaca and on Tuesday morning they were laid by the side of her long sleeping husband. Mr. Webster is engaged in business in Chicago, and had visited this locality, in accordance with his annual custom, bringing then his wife to enjoy with him a view of his old home scenery which he pronounces the most beautiful in the country which he has traveled extensively. The relict of Dr. Webster had been a life long member of the Baptist denomination but owing to a conflicting engagement of the pastor of that church, the Rev. Mr. Munger kindly read the solemn service of the dead at the grave.
