Mary Jo Knochel, 63, of Buck Creek died unexpectedly at her residence on Saturday, July 4, 2009.

Born November 4, 1945 in Lafayette, she was the daughter of the late Fern L. and Jeanette "Jay" (Merritt) Knochel. She graduated from East Tipp High School in 1963. She was previously married to Paul Goottee of Indianapolis. Ms. Knochel was employed at Marsh Supermarkets for over 30 years in West Lafayette. She was a member of the Buck Creek United Methodist Church. A 44-year member of Eastern Star, she was past matron of the Buck Creek and Dayton chapters and most recently was a member of the Hope chapter. She enjoyed gardening, canning, playing the piano, movies, and baking. She took great pride in crocheting afghans for weddings and births of family members and friends.

Surviving is a brother, John Knochel (wife: Barbara) and a sister, Jane Knochel all of Buck Creek. A brother, Lt. Charles (Chuck) Knochel preceded her in death in 1966. Also surviving are five nieces, Kathy Graveel (husband, Dean), Elizabeth Whaling (husband, Phil), Jeannette Welch (husband, Todd), Jennifer Cook, and Julie Banes (husband, John); and three great nephews and six great nieces.
