LINESVILLE - Carlyle Kendall Bortles, 77, of Linesville, died Friday April 11, 1997, at his residence.
He was born in Linesville, Jan. 25, 1920, a son of Russell Curtice Bortles and Myrl Kendall Bortles. He married Pauline Kuban on November 12, 1949 at St Peter's Church in Conneautville, PA.
He graduated from Linesville High School in 1938 and served in the US Army during WW II.
He was employed by Koski Construction Co. and S.J. Groves and Son as a bridge engineer. He retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in 1983.
He attended St. Philip Church in Linesville.
Survivors , in addition to his wife were, his mother of Linesville, a daughter Barbara S. Bortles of Grandview, MO.; a son James R. Bortles, his wife Terri, and a grandson Chase of Linesville; a brother, Russell Clifton Bortles and his wife Dorothea of Ashtabula, Ohio; and an aunt, Mamie Kendall of Linesville.
He was preceded in death by his father; and an infant daughter Nancy Jo Bortles.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Harold W. Coleman Jr. Funeral Home, 6028 U.S. Highway 6, Linesville PA.
A mass of christian burial was held at St Philip Church on Monday April 14, 1997 with the Rev. William J. Driscoll as celebrant.
Burial was in St. Philip Cemetery.
