Hazel Garr was the daughter of Able Weaver Garr and Eliza Ann Steven­son. She was born in Millville where she attended school and later attended Brigham Young College.

On December 20, 1907, Hazel and Angus Ray Hovey were married in the Logan Temple. Angus was born in Millville to James Alma Hovey and Esther Mariah Pitkin, the fourth of nine children. He attended school in Millville and then attended Brigham Young College in Logan where he participated on the track and basketball teams.

Ray began teaching school in Millville in 1907 and later became principal, teaching there until 1934. He also worked at the flour mill and farmed in the summer. He was active in the Church, enjoyed performing in plays and was a great story teller.

Hazel served for many years in the Relief Society and was President for four years. She enjoyed playing the piano, and she loved to dance.

After Ray's retire­ment, they lived in Salt Lake City and Cedar City where Ray was supervisor for the Feed and Seed Loan Department, USDA.

After Hazel's death on April 17, 1938, Ray married Blanch Jenson.

Children of Ray and Hazel are: Eltha H. Reading, Bernice H. Winborg, Ray Garr and Norma H. Herschi.
