About 1896, Thomas Jefferson Squires (T.J.) and his brother Christopher "Lum" Columbus Squires left northern Ohio. They were woodcutters for the railroad and they went to Calhoun County, Mississippi. T.J. married a plantation owner's daughter, Carrie McCord in 1897. They had two children together: John and Henry. Both T.J. and Lum's wives died of the fever (Typhoid) about 5 years later. They then moved to Indiana.

Thomas Jefferson Squires

Brazil, Ind., Nov. 12--(Special)--Funeral services for the late Thomas Jefferson Squires who dropped dead at Carbon Tuesday evening will be held at the home in Carbon at 9:30 o'clock Friday morning with continued services at the Beech Grove Church, 16 miles northeast of Carbon in Putnam County. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery.

Brazil, Ind. Nov. 12--Thomas Jefferson Squires, 69 years old, a teamster, of Carbon, Ind., died suddenly Tuesday evening. Mr. Squires is survived by two sons, John, of Carbon and Henry, of Mississippi. He lived near Clinton Falls, in Putnam County, for many years, moving to Carbon about five years ago.
About 1896, Thomas Jefferson Squires (T.J.) and his brother Christopher "Lum" Columbus Squires left northern Ohio. They were woodcutters for the railroad and they went to Calhoun County, Mississippi.
