Albert Lavon Blackburn, age 91, passed away July 1, at his home in California.

Lavon was born March 22, 1918 in Clawson, Utah. He was the fifth of eight children born to Annie Jorgensen and Albert Blackburn. He spent the early years of his life in Emery County.

When he was a young man Lavon joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC camps).

While he was working around Green River, Utah, he met the love of his life Stella May Brown. They married on Sept. 27, 1941 in Green River, and were later sealed in the Los Angeles Temple. They moved to California shortly after and began their family. They were the proud parents of eight children and provided a home and love for many foster children.

Lavon supported his family by working hard all of his life. He retired in 1992 after working for 35 years for Armstrong Tile where he was Lead Mechanic. Actually, he continued working and never really retired. In 2002 Lavon and Stella and two of their children moved to Vernal to be back in Utah where he always wanted to retire.

While they were in Vernal they experienced a few heartbreaks, Stella began suffering ill health. After thinking about it for awhile, Lavon decided to move back to California to be with his daughters and grandchildren there.

Lavon is survived by his wife Stella; daughters Karen Williams, Cammie Blackburn and Kimberly Blackburn of Brea, Calif.; son, Rick Blackburn of Napa, Calif.; brother, Elden of Salt Lake City; sister, Darlene Kartchner of Price; daughter-in-law, Sue Blackburn of Vernal; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents; brothers Clifton, Rulon and Floyd; sisters Pearl and Gloria; sons Robert Blackburn and Kenneth Blackburn; daughter Geneal Richards; and granddaughter Rhonda Langston; son-in-law Roy Williams of Brea, Calif.; and grandson-in-law Devin Guymon of Vernal.
