MIDLAND,MARYLAND -- Gertrude Eagan, 96, of Midland, and formerly of Frostburg Heights, Frostburg, died Friday, June 19, 2009, at Egle Nursing and Rehab Center, Lonaconing.
Born at Lonaconing on June 17, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Lincoln Bradley and Margaret (McKenzie) Bradley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Charles Eagan, who died Sept. 11, 1977; an infant daughter, Gertrude Eagan; a son, E. Eugene Eagan; five brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are one daughter, JoAnn Winner and husband George, of Rockville; two sons, John Michael Eagan, of Cameron, W.Va., and Patrick Joseph Eagan and wife Elaine, of Cumberland; eight grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews
Gertrude was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church, Midland, Sodality of the church, Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of Midland Vol. Fire Co., Senior Citizens of Georges Creek, former employee of Lonaconing Silk Mill, and Sacred Heart Hospital, where she was employed in the nursery for 15 years, and also operated Eagans convenience store in Midland until 1996.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home P.A.,Midland, eichhorn-mckenziefh.com on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.
St. Josephs Sodality will hold the rosary Monday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Josephs Catholic Church, Midland, with Father James Hannon as celebrant.
At her request she will be cremated.
Inurnment will be at St. Marys Cemetery, Lonaconing.
The family would like to thank the Egle Nursing and Rehab Center for the kind and gentle care given, and especially Dr. Tan.
The family requests memorial contributions be sent to St. Josephs Catholic Church, Box 1, Midland, or charity of your choice.
