She attended the Kopervik "Folke Skole" and also spent two years at a private school. As a young girl, she was employed as a clerk and office worker in her community, where she was active in Sunday School, Luther League, Missions and other church activities. She was also influential in promoting the work of the Temperance League of Norway.
After immigrating to America in 1910, she taught parochial school in northern Minnesota and later assisted at the home of Dr. and Mrs. T.H. Dahl in Minneapolis. She was united in marriage to Rev. Jorgen E.H. Akre at the Dahl home on June 19, 1913. Together, they served the parishes at Maple Bay, Shelly and Clarkfield. After the death of her husband on June 20, 1951, she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Roy Berggren in Minneapolis.
Although an invalid for many years, she was a source of inspiration to family and friends. Through her firm faith, courage, patience and determination, her life reflected the purpose of living to glorify God.
Death came peacefully on Saturday morning, April 2, 1960, at the home of her daughter, Alfhild, at the age of 77 years. Her husband, parents and brothers preceded her in death.
