Elias Doney was born the youngest child of John Nicholas and Elizabeth (Lentz/Lintz) Doney. Known as Eli, he was a very small man and early on moved around from his different brothers' farms working as a hired hand, sometimes staying with his sister Lucy Ann LaBorde's family. He had a small two-room house in Rockton, located on the west end of Union Blvd. Eli Doney never married but continued working as a day laborer doing odd jobs around town right up until his death. He is buried near his parents in this old Mennonite cemetery.
